Metas, ideales, realidad y cambio

Me pareció cómico y extremadamente real.

GOALS, IDEALS, REALITY AND CHANGE

A friend recently put on Facebook a photo in which the goals of previous years were updated to the present (see photo above, Spanish only). I found it extremely funny and real. The picture in question scaled goals down. And that seemed to me tragic, cladded with poignant sarcasm, dangerous if you will, beyond the humor and reality to which it refers.

Let me explain: We know that a vision for our life is presented as an envisioning 'model', as it is a map to a territory. In when replicating any model, there are things that go as 'in the picture' and others do not. So what do we do when there are gaps between what is desired and what were achieved? Should we level down? Do we mock the goal? No. Categorical and absolutely: no. It is rather necessary to maintain a north, an orientation, a hierarchy of truths to which we appeal and strive for. I’m not talking of holding whim ideals. I’m saying to keep ideals firmly as our direction for finding fulfillment in the little and transcendent things of life. The ideal is, in itself, unattainable, if not, it would not be called ideal. And so it is important to remember that the map is not the territory and recognize that its role is nothing more and nothing less, to help us remember from what side of the world the sun rises up. It will never be the territory, but its guiding function remains valid and strong, although we may have cloudy and stormy days. A map, a compass, are valuable tools if and when they are maintained, consulted, used instead of forgotten, mocked or discarded.

Holding ideals and keeping them do not imply naïveté, but wisdom to recognize that they carry a tension between the perfect and perfectible. An enriching tension because on one hand points to something else while celebrating the accomplishments, without ignoring the opportunity for growth and improvement. We are a reflection of the Most High God, designed to perfection, hence the intrinsic need to grow and advance. I’m not just talking about standards for our marriage, children, parents, employment, education or family. I’m also talking about tiny issues that we tend to ignore and go eroding those values we hold or held.

So for this 2013 I present to you the idea of change more than prosperity. And I suggest the change by the power for mobilization and growth it involves. Imagine: grow like never before ... renew our existence ... Change is not easy. But if we close ourselves to change and worse, if we level down, we would be limiting self-destining ourselves to mediocrity. My wish for you, which it is also for me, is that we can change what limits our takeoff, our taking into higher altitudes, or impedes a continuous peaceful flight. May we reinvent ourselves without losing the essence, and that we can rid ourselves of loads and weights we aggravate the soul. And hopefully live in peace, from the inside out. Very happy 2013. God bless us.

First of all I would like to say fantastic blog!
I had a quick question that I'd like to ask if you do not mind. I was curious to find out how you center yourself and clear your head prior to writing. I have had trouble clearing my mind in getting my ideas out. I do take pleasure in writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are generally lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any ideas or tips? Appreciate it!
